Washington, DC, June 27, 2022: As school ends and summer begins, students will begin to think about how to spend their time and possible programs they can participate in. University Startups is offering a Social Entrepreneurship Program where Montgomery County high school students focus on adopting the Lean Startup Methodology for creating for-profit businesses with a social or environmental impact.
This program is sponsored by Rockville-based American Gene Technologies, a clinical-stage biotechnology company pioneering gene therapy cures and treatments for infectious diseases, cancers and monogenic disorders.
Students will work in teams during the 10-day program, which spans from July 18th - July 29th, building up to a pitch competition on July 29th at the Universities at Shady Grove. In addition to sponsoring the students, American Gene Technologies will also provide mentors, host a site visit, and provide exclusive access to American Gene CEO and Founder, Jeff Galvin. This will include a Q&A session and the opportunity for student teams to learn about cutting-edge gene therapy technologies and receive feedback from Galvin on their business ventures during the Pitch Competition.
“These students are in for a fantastic experience, and we are gratified to have this opportunity to work with Montgomery County students and the Social Entrepreneurship Program that University Startups is offering,” said Galvin. “This program is a great way for students to explore the entrepreneurial mindset to build confidence in themselves and their abilities.”
The University Startups’ program will be run in a hybrid manner where the students will attend zoom meetings and take a site visit to American Gene Technologies where they will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with Galvin. This program will help prepare students for post high-school as well as develop their teamwork, leadership and communication skills.
