Washington DC, March 29th, 2023: University Startups (USU) is changing the trajectory of students in high school and community college! More than 8 out of 10 students say they feel better prepared for their future professional journey after taking the USU Impact Internship program. USU developed the invite-only, asynchronous, virtual Impact Internship experience for high school and community college students. It enables young adults to develop professional skills from the comfort of their homes and on their own schedules.
Impact Interns develop employability skills and align with Career and Technical Education (CTE) frameworks through various activities related to business, entrepreneurship, networking, and communication. USU reports that 92% of interns demonstrated problem solving skills and 92% of interns improved written and verbal communication skills.
Interns apply what they learn from the Impact Internship in their individual lives and schoolwork. For example, after attending a workshop on identifying passions, one student remarked “That workshop you sent out really inspired me and I actually started a passion project which is my club!” The skills and experiences gained through the Impact Internship program are being used to strengthen college applications, resumes, and scholarships submissions.
The Impact Internship is a gamified program– Interns climb the ranks as they complete weekly tasks to earn points. Interns are currently participating across the nation in this exclusive program, where 70% of whom now feel more confident in their overall abilities. University Startups offers over 30 courses and 300 learning hours that can be added to existing classes, administered in after school sessions, or used as stand alone courses.
Impact Interns gain 24/7 access to the Lightning Lessons™ portal, an all-inclusive educational digital library that includes popular topics such as social entrepreneurship, networking, and resume writing. In Q4 of 2022, University Startups rolled out the Impact Intern Hub™, a monitored professional networking space where interns can ask questions, find upcoming events, and discuss the latest learnings.
The Impact Internship is only available to students who attend an institution where the University Startups Platform is implemented.
