Menstruation Products, Food Allergies and College Applications are Front and Center at the University Startups Fall Pitch Competition

This wasn’t an ordinary day, it was a day where 3 teams from our online social entrepreneurship course battled in a pitch competition. What is a pitch competition you ask? University Startups offers a cutting edge social entrepreneurship course that utilizes the lean methodology of new venture development. The teams are taught over the course of the program how to build and launch their own start up! These teams presented unique ideas that showcased their agility and critical thinking skills in providing solutions to current problems. The first to the plate was a team presenting an app: Safer Choices - a food app targeting people with allergies looking to simplify their food purchasing. The next team to take a swing at a startup idea: The Necessities - a unique startup dedicated to providing schools and low-income families affordable access to essential menstruation products. The last team to show their skills presented a website:  Blooming Scholars -  a new website focused on centralizing the process for finding scholarships, grants, and financial aid for students looking to attend college. All three teams did an excellent job pitching their start-up, and the skills gained will help them as they move forward in their own path. Special thanks to University Startups partner Girls Who Start, a non-profit organization that provides girls the tools and opportunities to make their entrepreneurial ideas a reality.
